“The words we choose to describe illness are powerful”. I support this quote because illnesses are hard to explain to people. But the way a metaphor can help break it down without these big medical terms can help calm a person.

“Diabetes coats red blood cells with sugar until they’re little glazed donuts”. I support this quote because this is one way to ease the patient into getting this information. They use these kind words to help people.

“Metaphors may be as necessary to illness as they are to literature, as comforting to the patients as his own bathrobe and slippers”. I developed to this quote because it helps add to my point of helping the person and a way it makes it comforting and calming.

“You have to give them furniture to sit on that makes your architectural choices unavoidable”.
I chose this quote because furniture is a way of comfort. Which is true because in an empty room it is awkward but will some form of comfort it makes it not at weird. Which I agreed with this quote.

“But this is how metaphors mislead”
I agreed with this quote because metaphors are misled daily and interpreted wrong. Which can lead to disagreements or having the wrong message.

  • I agree with your first statement, I think the idea of comforting someone with a metaphor is wicked helpful. Also the ability to help breakdown something with a metaphor is also a great tool.

  • Same sort of quotes I chose as well, and I certainly agree like some of my other peers in this classroom. Well thought out analysis and was good to see your perspective on this case. Nice stuff!

  • You noticed some good moments in the text. I encourage you to practice zooming out and connecting these smaller moments with the larger ideas we’ve discussed in class.
