The artifact I chose is standard 1 which is Learner Development and Individual Learning Differences. Which is, “beginning special education professionals understand how exceptionalities may interact with development and learning and use this knowledge to provide meaningful and challenging learning experiences for individuals with exceptionalities”. I chose this standard because when I was a JFK with the kids, some of the kids were non verbal and some had the iPad and others had a word book. These two types of devices helped them use their voice in a different way. This supports my artifact because we can find ways for kids to be inclusive with their peers and those “challenges” can be no longer. 

I will find ways in my classroom to support my students. I loved the morning meeting book that JFK had. They did it together and they each had their own book so they could follow along and not only do the day of the week and the date but also say how they are feeling. They had the words and the picture to make those connections and be able to be included. I want to find my students’ weaknesses and work on them during our everyday schedule. Another thing I loved was at JFK they had smartboard time. That indicated the students working on the smartboard, there was matching, identifying colors, figuring the word to the picture. The teacher knew all the kids strengths and weaknesses and they all took turns going up but she accommodated each student without making it obvious to the other students. She just used different wording or different instructions and everyone was so supportive. That is what I want to do and what I want to see in my classroom.
