SPE 315

In week 10 we had an assignment that was an independent study. I chose a topic around sensory based activities. I see this connecting to standard 2 learning environments. This standard states “Beginning special education professionals create safe, inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments so that individuals with exceptionalities become active and effective learners and develop emotional well being, positive social interactions, and self-determination.” This connects because I want to have a safe space for my students to learn to their best of their ability. I learned during that case study how fidgets or relaxation corners help students with there gitteres and their frustration.

I will use this in my further classroom because I want to have a corner that is relaxing and has fidgets for kids that need to get their frustration out for a few minutes and to teach those boundaries when I child asks for a few minutes of space in the corner but as an educator to make sure there are those expectations so they don’t over use that corner. I feel fidgets will be beneficial because it can help the student keep their hands busy and their mind focused. I also want to inquire wiggle chairs so students that are over stimulated can have something that benefits them. I want to create a safe and inclusive classroom that benefits me as the educator and my students to reach our goal of getting what’s needed to get done
