The artifact I chose was standard 3 which is curricular content knowledge. This artifact states that “beginning special education professionals use knowledge of general and specialized curricula to individualize learning for individuals with exceptionalities”. I chose this artifact because I want to improve my teaching skills to find my students weaknesses and strengths and then connect with the gen ed teacher to see what she or he sees in the classroom and how we can work together. This connects to my artifact because we can work out a plan to help the student in an individualistic way which can make it easier for them to connect and learn easier.
I will use this in my classroom and with my students because all of my students will have strengths and weaknesses. I need to find a plan for each of my students that can help them in their gen ed classes and to work on those weaknesses. I want my students to stay in the classroom as much as they can to get that in classroom learning and to be with their friends. I want to be able to work with my students’ teacher on how we can stay on pace with their curriculum but also make sure my students are understanding the lesson. I want to be able to work with my teacher by giving ideas and working together to create individualized assignments so they can work on it with the classroom but in ways they can understand the content best. I want to advocate for my students because I want them to have that socialization piece but also be able to work on those communication skills that some kids might struggle with. I want them to be able to problem solve with their friends and yes some pieces can be a struggle but I will then step in during my time with the student to help them have a better understanding of it.
