In the article “See Through Words” one of the sections of the article that sparked my interest is the way furniture is used in situations. From my understanding the furniture is being symbolized in a house that has furniture is comfort. The room with no furniture is awkward or uncontrollable. The way I interpreted it was in some situations if you are just standing around and has no comfort in the home there it is weird while if there is furniture and cozy and all it won’t be in a strange situation. It built off a conversation in the margins because you wouldn’t really think furniture as a metaphor for that type of situation but it makes sense.

Another section of the article that was found interesting was comparing childhood resilience by dandelions and orchids. Dandelions “did well in range of circumstances” while orchids “succeeded only under narrow set of circumstances”. In interpreted this as how the kids act is how they are nurtured or how the environment of growing up was like. The way the kids are and their backgrounds of childhood is how the way they are compared as a weed or a flower. The metaphors are used a way of speaking that is can be created an image.

  • Kudos to you for continuing to explore the metaphor is a room metaphor. I’m curious if that exercise helped lead to further insight and/or learning for you.
