Throughout the semester we learned about services that can help families and how important it is to include the families and other educators to make sure everyone is collaborating. Which goes under standard 7 which is collaboration which states Beginning special education professionals collaborate with families, other educators, related service providers, individuals with exceptionalities, and personnel from community agencies in culturally responsive ways to address the needs of individuals with exceptionalities across a range of learning experiences. We learned how there are many different free services that are in the area and in groups we reached out to these people to learn more information about how they can help families with schools. We also learned how important families are and how included they should be in their school life.

This knowledge will be beneficial for my future classroom because including my students’ parents or guardians will be my priority. I want to get to keep them in the loop with everything because most parents want what’s best for their child and I want to be able to give that information on things they can work on at home that can possibly help academically or behaviorally and things they can tell me about their child that works for them so we can help inquire it in the classroom. I want to work with my families to benefit the child and be able to listen to their needs and their goals for the child and work with them and the child as a team to reach that goal. I also want to have information for families if they want to understand their rights and other resources that can help them with the school systems if they are being denied by the school board. I want to be an advocate for my students every way I can.
