Learning Outcome 3

I agree with Gilroy’s article about annotations and ways that helped me. In the reading by Julia Beck, we had to annotate this article and these methods made it easier to understand. I decided to make notes in the margins and underline important quotes. I also underline words that I am not aware of, which will help me go back and look up to have a better understanding. I find these helpful for me because rewriting sentences and writing notes helps me understand the article more because it is in my words. I also wrote in the margins of what I agree with and what I disagree with. I like to have arguments with the article because it helps with assignments but also what I believe in and has a connection with the article. I know to paraphrase and mark up because it made me a question or seemed important to what the article is trying to explain. I also found it helpful when I rewrote some of the sentences because it made it easier to understand rather than not knowing what I read, but taking a moment to read it over and rewrite it I found it more readable. In the article Julia Beck wrote, I broke down the text with many notes and major key points. In one color I highlighted key points and in another, I highlighted important opinions and vocabulary words that I didn’t know. These methods helped my understanding of challenging articles and ways to break them down.
